FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Thursday, June 27, 2013

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - LoneStarCon 3, the 71st World Science Fiction Convention ("Worldcon"), is delighted to announce that the a capella group, Sassafrass, will be presenting "Sundown: Whispers of Ragnarok" as a featured event on Saturday, August 31. Gods and myths of the Viking era will come to life in this set of songs that narrate the history of the cosmos according to Viking legend, from the creation of the world to Ragnarok. The song cycle premiered at Balticon earlier this year, and will be receiving its second performance at Worldcon.

Sassafrass is a singing group performing original a cappella folk music, mostly with fantasy, mythology and science fiction themes. Their pieces are set in close harmony, for women’s voices or mixed, with a somewhat Renaissance feel. Their songs tell stories, often with multiple different lines of lyrics woven together to communicate different characters or aspects of a story. Sassafrass perform mainly at science fiction and fantasy conventions, and their work has been recognized with Pegasus Award nominations for best performer in both 2010 and 2012.

Sassafrass recently raised the spectacular sum of over $16,000 through a Kickstarter campaign to fund both the performance at LoneStarCon 3 and the creation of CD and DVD versions of their Norse myth song cycle. More information on the Kickstarter and the "Sundown: Whispers of Ragnarok" project can be found on the LoneStarCon 3 website at www.lonestarcon3.org/program/ragnarok.shtml and on the Sassafrass website at www.sassafrassmusic.com.

The "Sundown: Whispers of Ragnarok" performance will be open to all attending members of LoneStarCon 3. Final scheduling information will be published during August, 2013.
